Workshops
The workshop will be in the form of a panel discussion to consider how universities are dealing with delivering a decarbonisation strategy across an estate, without sight of funding to achieve net-zero.
The discussion will cover:
- Low cost, high impact decarbonisation interventions
- Funding strategies
- Practical challenges
- Master planning - what can and can't be done
- Lessons learnt
As a case study, Universities in the Netherlands have established ways to involve the students with sustainability, including:
- Green Office - students are able to give advice to the universities.
- Green Villages - here start ups and scale ups run experiments with sustainable products to develop them for the market. They are able to use knowledge available at the universities and companies coach the students to make the product 'market proven'. One university is offering students the opportunity to use the buildings as the basis for their study and research - effectively an experiment! Every building has its own 'theme': light, water etc.
