Achieving Quality through the Planning System
Does Design Review Deliver for Education Development?
Matthew Blythin, DHA & Catherine Ward, HLM
Are Design Review Panels an effective tool for government-funded school planning applications? Do panels give appropriate weight to functional and operational requirements and budgetary constraints as part of their assessment of the design; or should cost be a factor for them to consider at all?
This presentation will share and discuss case study experiences of school Design Review Panels and reflect on whether any changes in approach are required to ensure that they remain a constructive and effective planning tool to meaningfully drive design development in a deliverable and viable way.
Panellists:
- Jennifer Singer, Head of Capital Programme Advisory – schools and colleges, Department for Education
- Helen Taylor, Director of Practice, Scott Brownrigg
