BUILDING BETTER MINDS

Building Confidence and Supporting Young People into Employment

For many young people, the journey from education into employment can feel overwhelming. Anxiety, low confidence, neurodiversity and the pressures of recruitment can create invisible barriers, meaning employers risk missing out on incredible talent.

Building Better Minds brings together young people, employers and industry role models to explore the challenges of navigating recruitment, managing anxiety and building resilience. We'll discuss practical coping strategies, the importance of mentoring and how employers can make recruitment more inclusive, lead with empathy and create supportive workplace cultures.

From providing quiet spaces to help individuals regulate when overwhelmed, to challenging stigma around mental health and neurodiversity, we'll ask how small changes can make a big difference.

We'll also consider how employers can positively influence a young person's future, even when they don't have a job to offer, through mentoring, encouragement, constructive feedback and meaningful career conversations. With mental health remaining a critical issue across construction, this session aims to break down barriers, challenge perceptions and reinforce one message: It's OK to ask for support. And everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.
