Learning by play – Encouraging hand washing in primary students
The Franke “Learning by play” range which is featured on the Franke stand, is specifically designed to encourage younger children to wash their hands properly. The wave-shaped troughs are designed with an indent to reduce the distance to the taps, creating a practical and playful washing environment.
Keeping children healthy is an important goal of any child care programme and whilst teaching good washroom habits can be a tricky task, washing hands carefully and thoroughly can help children reduce the risk of circulating germs and illnesses. There are many ways to encourage good personal hygiene in children, one of which is creating a pleasant and playful environment, therefore learning by play is an important factor in today’s educational washrooms. A clear example of fun washroom products being put to good use is shown in the illustrated room with the Franke Washino Split Level Trough which is inviting and warm to touch encouraging children to spend more time.

Anti-bullying & creating unisex washrooms
Traditional layouts in school toilets have been a prime spot for bullying and anti-social behaviour for many years but through thoughtful design schools can actively prevent and reduce incidents.
Unisex washrooms or communal hand washing areas can also be a solution to washroom bullying. Installing two rows of cubicles in a large open plan space, then have one side for males and one side for females can be a brilliant way of combating this issue. By having washbasins placed in the middle of the room pupils are less likely to be backed into a corner or up against a basin, for example, the range of Franke circular washtroughs has been purposely designed to reduce the risk of bullying in this way. Even though we cannot simply stop all bullying by just changing the washroom environment, we can reduce the number of occurrences by improving poor washroom areas.
