Session 2
How Plymouth CAST Turned Condition Data into an Estate Management Tool
Plymouth CAST's estate data was fragmented across paper reports and PDFs, disconnected from the assets they described and no help when planning maintenance or building a case for investment. In partnership with ONE Creative environments, CAST piloted a digital condition survey workflow, using assets from the Net Zero Accelerator Programme. Surveyors captured structured, DfE-aligned condition data via a simple mobile app, feeding directly into a digital twin alongside maintenance history and performance data. This presentation shares how CAST specified this with surveyors, the day-to-day benefits for estates teams, and the resulting shift from reactive to planned maintenance across the estate.
Smart Schools: Turning Estate Data into Smarter Decisions
What if your estate could tell you where energy is being wasted, where learning environments need improvement and which investments will deliver the greatest impact?
This session explores the DfE Smart Schools programme and how Barker, Cisco and education partners are using connected data to create smarter education estates. Drawing on data from over 1,500 IoT sensors, we will demonstrate how integrated estate intelligence supports better decisions around building performance, energy use, space utilisation and technology deployment. Through real-world examples, delegates will discover practical approaches to improving sustainability, strengthening funding cases, prioritising investment and enhancing educational outcomes.
