Synopsis

Art is our societal backbone, it defines our national identity, our culture and ignites conversation. The art industry is arguably not in a fit shape to support the next generation of makers – it’s a fascinating, mysterious realm – but it’s vital we protect and support the creative industries, currently worth just under £100 billion each year to the UK economy.

Published in 2017, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health and Wellbeing found that the impact of design and creativity on wellbeing is powerful. Art and creativity can also have a profound impact on student mental health and productivity. Universities are communities and must reflect our wider society. Creativity is a tool within higher education to engage the student body with their local community and encourage interaction, cementing university culture and the experience of students.
