Improving Chances of Successful Research Funding Applications for New Facilities

Time: 10:20 - 10:35

Date: Wednesday 16 October

Synopsis

For the new London Institute of Healthcare Engineering, KCL took the decision to appoint a design team to do a feasibility study focused on satisfying criteria for a UKRPIF funding application rather than develop traditional RIBA Stage 1-2 designs. This strategy reduced design costs while increasing chances of securing funding.

The study focused on:

  • engaging with end-user academics to be able to articulate and define the brief
  • evaluating potential sites to interconnect Education and Medical Research
  • ensuring the approach was viable and deliverable within the funding parameters
  • enabling the resultant design to fully meet the overall vision for the project
