Synopsis

Both regional and global aspirations drove the establishment of New York University Abu Dhabi, an institution intended to expand NYU’s core values internationally and simultaneously to help position the United Arab Emirates for a future diversified economy based on strong academic and research-oriented activities.  The campus plan reflects these goals through its incorporation of sustainable and passive design principles as well as its interpretation of regional planning precedents.  The 370,000-square meter campus holds 2,600 students currently with capacity to accommodate a total of 4,000; it was planned, designed and constructed in a single phase over the course of five years.  A total of 29 buildings integrate housing and spaces for teaching, performance, research, wellness, athletics and public interaction.
