Education Estates 2019

Synopsis

The London School of Economics is located in the very centre of London. LSE was physically anonymous lacking presence and identity with poor quality and uninspiring facilities and buildings. A new Estates Strategy in 2011 targeted the creation of a world class estate and an identifiable ‘university quarter’.

Over the last decade the School has embarked on an ambitious programme of property acquisition and campus redevelopment .This has culminated in the biggest building programme (both in terms of floor space and cost) in the LSE’s 123 year history.

Developing in London comes with its own set of specific challenges. The LSE’s journey and these have been addressed will be explored and lessons learnt will be shared.
