Synopsis

Mossbourne Riverside Academy is a new 3 form entry primary school with nursery, constructed as part of the Legacy Communities Scheme following the 2012 Olympic Games. The design uses a compact footprint and lightweight off-site manufactured cross laminated timber (CLT) structure to deliver a BREEAM excellent school to a tight programme on this complex brownfield site. ‘Abnormals’ included contamination and the channel tunnel running at shallow depth below the site. The building is naturally ventilated and connects to district heating & grey water systems. Funding was via Targeted Basic Needs, supplemented by the London Legacy Development Corporation.
