About 80% of external input to the brain is processed by the visual pathway and yet lighting solutions are often aimed at satisfying rather basic technical criteria, but little else. The quality of the lit environment, the characteristics of light itself and the sense of control that occupants have, can all have far reaching benefits in terms of comfort, health and wellbeing, and learning, and this presentation considers the potential benefits that good lighting can bring, beyond simply giving us the ability to see.
