The Use of Drone Technology to Monitor and Secure Education Facilities
Time: 15:30 - 15:50
Date: Wednesday 16 October
Autonomous drones are becoming integrated into the civilian airspace, from the armed forces using them as reconnaissance and weapons platforms, to Google, Facebook and Amazon proposing their use as a last-mile delivery system. Challenges include, efficient propulsion, endurance, Non-line of sight (NLOS) communication, aerial docking (Swarms) and operations where GPS is denied, blocked or spoofed. This talk will introduce the potential for drones to provide enhanced security for large scale infrastructure sites, such as educational premises, which remain vulnerable to intruders during evening, weekend and summer vacation periods.
