Creating brilliant places and spaces for young people with SEND
This presentation explores the evolving policy landscape of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), examining the challenges and impacts of the past decade on learning environments. It highlights global approaches to SEND provision, including integration with mainstream schools, supported by case studies showcasing effective, inclusive settings. The session addresses how leading Local Authorities are responding to the shortage of SEND spaces, driven by demographic shifts and strategic planning. Drawing on AtkinsRéalis’ recent projects and Human Centred Design Tool, it presents insights from viability studies and outlines pathways to creating integrated SEND resource bases aligned with national legislation and inclusive models.
