Biography

Jim Chapman is a chartered Architect and Urban Designer with over 45 years’ experience as a consultant delivering a wide range of projects in many sectors. He established an independent consultancy in 2006 which focuses on supporting and advising clients on the delivery of high quality projects.

Jim is a visiting Professor of Architecture for the Manchester School of Architecture, following 9 years on the governing board and he advised the Manchester Metropolitan University on design and procurement matters on several strategic developments. He is a member of the steering group for the RIBA Client Adviser’s panel.

He is a Trustee for the National Museums Liverpool.

Jim is a member of the Built Environment Expert [BEE] network, and was a vice –chair of the CABE[Commission of Architecture and the Built Environment] design review panel set up to review school design as part of the national programme.

He acts as an assessor for RIBA Competitions projects in Healthcare [including the Evelina Hospital,  the Research and Education building Alder Hey, Great Ormond Street Hospital], Universities [Oxford University, Lancaster University, and Manchester Metropolitan University], and regeneration projects.

He was intimately involved in the regeneration of Manchester; he prepared the master plans for both the Commonwealth and Olympic Games and was a key member of the team in rebuilding of the City in 1996, after the IRA bomb.
