Peter Cartwright

Director

Cartwright Pickard

Biography

Peter founded Cartwright Pickard with James Pickard in 1996. He is the Director of the Leeds and Manchester offices and is responsible for a wide variety of projects in both the private and public sectors.

Peter oversaw the design and delivery of new civic office buildings in Wakefield and Doncaster, both of which have won RIBA awards. More recently he has delivered XYZ, a new £30 million BREEAM Excellent commercial office building in Spinningfields, Manchester for Allied London, which is highly innovative in its approach to workplace design.

Peter was also responsible for the recently completed, RIBA National and BCO Regional award-winning Albert Works project in Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter. Other recent projects include Sellers Wheel, a mixed-use, award winning six-storey student accommodation scheme within a conservation area in Sheffield.

Peter has good experience of leveraging relationships with contractors and occupiers to deliver public sector office buildings that utilise fast track procurement methods. He has developed successful strategies that allow public sector organisations to consolidate their estates, disposing of under-utilised assets and increasing the density, efficiency and performance of the remaining estate.

Peter is a RIBA Assessor for the North of England, and a member of the Design Review Panel for Yorkshire and Humberside. He has acted as an external visiting critic at schools of architecture including The University of Nottingham, where he studied.
