Gary joined the DfE in February 2012, where he initially worked on the free schools capital programme. Here he could draw upon his background of working on education and other public-sector projects while in private practice as an architect.

During his time with the DfE, he has been involved in many areas. As well as the free schools programme, his work has included University Technical Colleges, the reuse and disposal of education facilities and acting as a design advisor assisting design teams. He has joined the Children’s Social Capital Team to help deliver the new Secure Children’s Homes.
