Jane Balderstone is the Director of Education Estates in the Department for Education, taking up this role from April 2026. Jane’s role is to implement the Education Estates Strategy, with oversight of the portfolio of work and teams in the directorate delivering it. The overall aim of her role is to ensure that DfE improves the spaces pupils and students learn in.

Prior to this, Jane was the Director of Capital Delivery, overseeing the delivery of DfE’s large construction programmes. Jane has worked in a variety of roles in DfE since 2007. She started her career at HM Treasury and is a graduate of the Major Projects Leadership Academy
