Katherine’s research sits at the intersection of libraries, universities, and public life, and employs interdisciplinary literatures (combining sociology, library and information studies, and queer theory), creative qualitative methods (including drawing), and experimental representational styles (including audio and creative non-fiction). In examining how campus spaces are socially produced through everyday practices, built pedagogies, and institutional discourses, her research provides an essential commentary on the shifting spatial and epistemic borders of higher education. Her research analyses approaches to civic engagement and more recently, she has been undertaking a sensory ethnography of a British university’s ‘Innovation Campus’.
