Marcus Lloyd-Davy

Director of Estates & Capital Projects, Newham College

Marcus has worked in Estates for 15 years, with the last 7 being at Director level.  He currently acts as Director of Estates and Capital Projects for Newham College of Further Education, a college based over 7 campuses, which provides educational facilities for 11,000 students and 800 staff and serves a diverse community where 71% of residents are from BAME communities.

Working alongside Queen Mary’s University London, Marcus led the programme for Estates and ICT in the creation of the London IOT (Institute of Technology), a project with a value of £28M.  He is passionate about sustainability and has changed 10,000 lights across campuses, moved to electric vehicles and will be delivering a further £6,000,000 of improvements (replacing windows and additional insulation measures); these resulted in a reduction of over 150 tonnes of carbon waste every year and they aim to be carbon neutral by 2040. Previously, Marcus was Group Director of Estates at New City College which, when incorporated, had in excess of 35,000 students and 3,000 staff across 67 separate campuses in East London & Essex.

Marcus has always worked in either the Public or Third sector, for organisations that deliver overarching, social good.  Outside of work, he served as a trustee of his local library for 8 years - moving it from a council-owned library (this meant they had to negotiate with three different councils) to community owned - and served as a Magistrate for 14 years before giving it up earlier this year.
