Rupert Goddard

Partner, Sheppard Robson

Rupert leads a diverse portfolio of education and commercial projects from the practice’s Manchester office. He is also part of Sheppard Robson’s Design Review Group, shaping the design direction of the practice.

Whether designing higher education facilities, student living projects or residential developments, Rupert’s work has a reputation for creating buildings in which communities thrive. An example of this approach is the carefully composed social spaces that enliven Greenbank Student Village, encouraging interaction and boosting mental health. Rupert’s interest in community-building can also be seen in urban centres, with projects such as Echo Street bringing together co-living alongside student living in Central Manchester.

Other recent projects that balance the latest pedagogical thinking, strong architectural forms and low-carbon design principles include: the Frederick Douglass Centre at Newcastle University; the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Liverpool and the refurbishment of Lancaster University’s Library.

Rupert is a regular commentator on issues ranging from the future of co-living to how student living can boost wellness and the student experience.
