Sarah Williams
Sarah Williams is a strategic RIBA Client Adviser and architect, serving as the Design Lead for Mainstream Schools at the Department for Education (DfE). She is the Department's subject matter expert for the design and technical delivery of primary and secondary schools across England, providing leadership on all aspects of educational design, construction, and estate improvement.
Her role encompasses the review and development of school buildings and grounds, the delivery of sector research, and the creation of technical standards and guidance that support the continuous improvement of the education estate. Her expertise spans educational development, sustainability, standardisation, space planning, specifications, SEND inclusion, digital transformation in construction, and public sector project delivery.
Prior to joining the Department for Education, Sarah was Director of S Williams Architects, where she worked with central and local government, public institutions, private developers, and commercial organisations to deliver complex, high-profile projects valued at up to £150 million. Her portfolio included the House of Architecture Programme for RIBA, public realm strategies for The Crown Estate, and a diverse range of developments for developers, institutions, and local authorities across the UK.
Sarah combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, and extensive delivery experience to help shape high-quality, sustainable, and inclusive learning environments for future generations.
