With 17 prestigious categories, the Awards honour the contributions of consultants, contractors, architects and clients, as well as ground-breaking work in innovation and sustainability.

Open to architectural practices working on education projects in England. Submissions should focus on projects where practical completion was achieved between 01/07/2024 and 31/01/2026.

 

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be marked out of 10 for each of the following criteria:

  • Quality of Design (10 points):
    Evidence of exceptional design aligned with educational goals, showcasing innovation, creativity, and user-centred solutions. Designs should demonstrate adaptability to the evolving needs of educational institutions.
  • Value Delivery (10 points):
    Demonstration of how the design provided measurable value, including cost-effectiveness, long-term operational efficiency, and adaptability to future needs. Include quantitative data or outcomes where possible.
  • Client Engagement and Satisfaction (10 points):
    Examples of client collaboration, responsiveness to feedback, and testimonials from key stakeholders, such as headteachers, facilities managers, or school governors.
  • Impact on Stakeholders (10 points):
    Evidence of the project’s positive impact on students, staff, and the wider community, focusing on how the design has enhanced educational outcomes and environments.
  • Sustainability and Innovation (10 points):
    Commitment to eco-friendly practices, sustainable materials, and innovative approaches to design challenges. Include specific metrics on carbon savings, energy efficiency, or other sustainability outcomes.


Submission Requirements

Entrants must provide the following:

  • Responses to each of the five judging criteria, with a maximum of 200 words per criterion.
  • Case studies of up to 3 projects, including visuals (photos, renderings, or drawings).
  • At least one client testimonial, ideally from a senior stakeholder.
  • Supporting evidence such as:
    • Metrics on project outcomes (e.g., cost savings, energy efficiency).
    • Sustainability data (e.g., carbon footprint reductions, energy performance improvements).
    • Results of user satisfaction surveys or stakeholder feedback.

    Evidence of the client’s clear vision, ambition, and dedication to delivering an outstanding learning environment, demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence.
  • Collaboration and Leadership (10 points)
    Examples of how the client has driven a collaborative approach, engaging with design teams, contractors, and key stakeholders to bring their vision to life.
  • Innovation and Creativity (10 points)
    Demonstration of how the client has championed innovation—whether in design, technology, or project delivery—to push boundaries and create inspiring, future-proofed spaces.
  • Impact on Users and Community (10 points)
    Evidence of the project’s positive impact on students, staff, and the wider community, ensuring inclusivity, wellbeing, and enhanced educational outcomes.
  • Commitment to Sustainability and Long-Term Value (10 points)
    How the client has prioritised sustainability, energy efficiency, and long-term value, ensuring the project delivers benefits beyond its completion.

    Demonstration of how the project responds directly to the needs of diverse users, including engagement with students, educators, and SEN specialists in the design process.
  • Innovation in Inclusive Design (10 points)
    Examples of creative and forward-thinking solutions that enhance accessibility, such as assistive technology, adaptable spaces, or specialised learning environments for students with SEND and additional needs.
  • Impact on Learning and Wellbeing (10 points)
    Evidence of how the project positively affects the experience of students and staff, particularly those with SEN, disabilities, or other additional needs, promoting inclusivity, wellbeing, and engagement.
  • Long-Term Sustainability and Adaptability (10 points)
